Coeur d'Alene, Idaho: If it wasn't already bustling with enough activity, The Club at Black Rock is in an exciting phase of growth. With the addition of approximately 1,100 acres, the new property will include not only a special clubhouse just for kids and teens, but will boast a championship 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed course that is currently under construction. Additional golf amenities will include an 18-hole putting course, a Par 3 course and enhanced practice facilities.
Three years ago, Jeff and Amy Larson, who are year-round residents of the Club, lived about 35 minutes west of Coeur d'Alene in Spokane, Washington. Originally they purchased a lot at Black Rock for investment purposes, but after seeing a finished home perfect for their family, they snapped it up. Living at Black Rock also provides a level of safety for their kids that they enjoy. "I am comfortable with the kids riding their bikes, walking and exploring on their own," expresses Amy. When asked what is their favorite part about Black Rock, Savannah, who is "seven and
three-quarters" enjoys "singing with the band at the Block Parties, dancing and swimming," and ten year-old Clay, who has won trophies in local golf tournaments, likes "golf and playing in the pool."
A Demograpic Discovery
"We have been pleasantly surprised to discover that there is a younger demographic of members than we originally anticipated," states Roger Nelson, President of Black Rock Development. "We are here to meet our members' needs, and that is why we are so excited about not only the new golf course, but also the new family-oriented amenities we have to offer."
Amy Larson is pleased at how welcome her children are at Black Rock, especially within the walls of the 31,000 square foot Clubhouse. "Other clubs can be stuffy and snobby. The Black Rock style is friendly, casual and accommodating. The Club is like summer camp for adults, the level of service is amazing from the greeting at the gates to all of the amenities, and our kids love it too."
Kootenai Cabin, the clubhouse for kids, will make them love it even more. In addition to the cabin, the kids enjoy a rock-climbing wall, an Olympic-sized pool with waterslide, basketball and volleyball courts, a lake for fishing, a zip line, and supervised activities, all of which are a part of the seasonal Kid's Camp. The camp also features fun lake activities via Black Rock's sunny and sandy beach. All Club members will also have access to the on-site Equestrian Center with riding, biking and hiking trails that lead to a scenic pavilion for picnics.
"It's the best of both worlds living at the Club year-round," offers Amy Larson. "The busy summer season brings fun and interesting members, and our kids always make great friends who they look forward to seeing each year. There are also so many activities we do as a family throughout the year: work out in the fitness center, soak in the whirlpool, play golf and relax on the beach."
Breaking Ground
The additional acreage to the Black Rock property will increase to approximately 1,800 acres that will be anchored by both the award-wining Jim Engh-designed course and the new Tom Weiskopf course. The Clubhouse for the Weiskopf course will have a more casual setting to complement the grand scale of the existing Engh course Clubhouse. The new property will offer larger homesites as well as turn-key homes similar to the existing member cabins and cottages.
The Club at Black Rock currently has 300 active members and when it's completed, the new, expanded property will allow the addition of 345 new memberships. "Why would someone belong to a club of investors and speculators when they could belong to an active club that has more amenities and is an overall well-managed business?" asks owner Marshall Chesrown.
"There is no hype, this is just a great place to be with family and friends who have chosen Black Rock as their home for years to come. We are truly unique."

Private, But Accessible
The Club at Black Rock is a 40-minute drive from Spokane (Washington) International Airport. It's located in the resort town of Coeur d'Alene and overlooks the majestic 25-milelong view of Lake Coeur d'Alene. It's an amazing landscape set among the basalt black rock cliffs that is home to wildlife such as eagles, hawks, deer, elk and osprey. Widely considered one of the most beautiful places in the world, Coeur d'Alene is easily accessible from all over the country.
Full of activity and events, the golf season runs from April through October. As Amy Larson mentioned it's the "best of both worlds." Why wouldn't you want a safe place for your family as well as the feel of a great neighborhood with all the convenience and amenities of a resort? Welcome home to Black Rock.
